I've shared my love of Perk Energy and Chill, but I wanted to share a story of caution! Perk is a great treat, and a wonderful replacement to standard hot chocolate because of high protein and other nutritious ingredients. But as someone already inclined to anxiety, having Energy on a regular basis with caffeine isn't always smart!
For Those With Anxiety
Cold weather isn’t the norm here, and I just wanted to be warm in the morning. Why not make my morning meal a nutritious cup of hot chocolate with Perk? And go ahead and make it Energy, because it would give me a quick boost to start the day!
Everything was fine for the first few days, having a cup of Perk Energy every morning to kickstart the day. That’s when the panic attacks and anger episodes started happening. My brain didn’t feel like it was functioning correctly; I was always on edge with my temper; my emotional tears were always immediately behind. I blamed everything on the kids, saying that their actions were the ones pushing me to the cliff side.
Switch to Decaf
About two weeks later, I realized these angry and stressed feelings were not going away. I needed to figure out what was the real root of the problem. We went to church, and I was able to take a moment of quiet and just listen to my body. There I realized my entire being was shaking. I wasn’t stressed, nothing loud was happening around me, and that’s when it clicked. It was the caffeine from breakfast that morning, and every morning the last two weeks.
Now, I’ve never had coffee, but I realize now I would need to be a decaf drinker if I did! I’m already a very go-getter, anxious person without the additional stimulant. I stopped drinking Energy immediately the next day and haven’t had those insane swings since. Don’t get me wrong, I still have had stress and anxiety, but it’s been on the normal, manageable levels.
Perk Energy was delicious for a morning drink, but it consistently raised my base stress levels too high. Especially for first thing in the morning. Now when I want my wonderful Perk as a morning treat, I make a cup of Chill instead! A lot of the same nutritional benefits, but without the caffeine, and I haven’t had any panic attacks since.
I still plan on drinking Energy when I need it, but I need to make sure I actually need it!
