The Christmas tree doesn't go up until after Thanksgiving - normally. This year the kids got extra days off school for Hurricane Nicole, so we pulled out the Christmas tree early! Instead of adding Christmas decorations and ornaments to its branches, we made it a Thanksgiving tree!
The Plan
Every night after dinner, we each pick a new leaf and write on it one thing we're thankful for. Then we place it on the Thanksgiving tree. With five people, the tree will overflow with red, orange, and brown leaves soon! The kids have loved it, and spend all day making their decision on what they're adding to the next leaf.
Leaf Ideas
I looked online first, but decided on the DIY direction. If you don't want to DIY, you can get artificial leaves, and write your thankful notes with Sharpies. Or here are some precut paper leaves!
We used this leaf template from Homemade Gifts Made Easy, and printed them on construction paper. Construction paper is larger than printer paper, so we cut them down first with this paper trimmer. I wanted the leaves to last longer than one season, so we laminated them too. Required double cutting, but we can reuse the leaves and see previous' years notes. Ongoing thankfulness!
