How to Store and Organize Christmas Ornaments

Every year we gift our kids a new Christmas ornament. After a few years, the collection has definitely grown! Instead of sticking everything in one box as we take down the Christmas tree, everyone has their own designated storage container!

The Storage Container

In our family, we each have our own sturdy gift box that holds our personal ornaments. Ours were clothing gift boxes I picked up on an after-Christmas sale at Michaels a few years back. I loved the Christmas design on them, which adds to the festivity and fun when unboxing too!

Having separate storage containers for each person's ornaments helps contain the chaos when putting up the tree, and when taking it down. Instead of cramming things all together, my kids actually take the time to find their special pieces from the tree and wrap them gently. It brings an extra sense of ownership! The separate boxes help when putting the tree up too, because then there's designated pieces each person is hanging, instead of a free-for-all.

The original storage box for the ornament is going to be the safest packing system. But if you've already gotten rid of the box, or aren't really concerned about the fragile nature of the ornament, wrap each one in tissue paper before adding them to the storage box. It helps with padding the box for the more breakable ornaments, and keeps scratches from happening!
