Monkey Bread Recipe - Easy Breakfast, Dinner, or Dessert Option

Planning dinner every night is exhausting. So I recruited the kids to help pick meals! One of their favorite sources for recipes is the Disney Princess Cookbook. Aedan picked "Abu's Monkey Bread", but we made some adjustments for ease. Mainly, I didn't want to make the bread part from scratch. It was delicious and made the easiest evening breakfast dinner!

Ingredients

  • 2 canisters of refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 Tbsp melted butter

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to required temperature according to your crescent rolls.
  2. Mix together brown sugar, white sugar, and cinnamon in one bowl.
  3. Melt butter in a second bowl (remember, if you're melting the butter in the microwave, keep it at a low temperature in small time increments).
  4. Butter the inside of a bundt pan, which will keep the bread from sticking to the dish.
  5. Cut the refrigerator rolls into bite-sized pieces, one roll at a time, into the melted butter.
  6. Stir roll pieces in the melted butter until all sides are covered.
  7. Transfer roll pieces into the sugar mixture (let the extra butter drip off the roll pieces, we used a fork to stab each piece).
  8. Stir roll pieces in the sugar until all sides are covered.
  9. Transfer roll pieces into the bundt pan.
  10. Continue until all roll pieces from both canisters have been covered in butter and sugar.
  11. Cook according to roll directions.
  12. Enjoy your caramelized dinner, or dessert, or breakfast!

Why We Liked These Changes

So the biggest difference between our version and and other monkey bread recipes was the different bread type. Using the crescent rolls instead of biscuits, the bread pieces weren't as large and fluffy. It was more condensed, and it seemed more crystalized with the caramel. We also cooked some sausage patties and had some chocolate milk to complete the "meal".

Next time, we plan to add raisins, for a little kick of healthy!
