We're a big movie family over here. Especially with teaching the kids about our childhood favorites! I bought this Family Movie Night Journal over Black Friday as another form of family togetherness, and gifted it to the group over Valentine's Day. It's been a few months now, and we started a full weekly Family Night now -- complete with weekly activity and meal planning, allowance, pizza, and a movie!
Family Love From Within
The best part of this book, is you can feel the family love coming from it's pages! The authors are Jennifer and Jayda Borget, mother and daughter! With the thoughtful journal prompts, add even more family love with your family creativity. Get your whole crew involved in making the rules. Have everyone sign their own names to the "This Journal Belongs To" section. This truly becomes your memories!
And if you're needing some uplifting content on social media, be sure to check out their Instagram page!
The Rules
Not just an empty book, but it's an interactive game for the whole family. Before you even watch your first movie, walk through the beginning section as a group. You'll decide on the rules of Movie Night:
- Picking Order: Decide who gets to pick the movie, and it helps from the "but she chose last week" whining
- Scheduled Date and Time: If you are scheduling a weekly family date, decide day and time
- Cell Phones: Are they allowed?
- Disagreeing with choice: Can you complain on what was chosen? Do they have to pick again?
- Open Ended: Another requirement or rule you want to add? There's open space to allow for it to be more custom to your own family.
The Journal Prompts
Our movie nights before would turn into pure chaos when the film ended. "Everyone get your teeth brushed! Get in bed!" Now we spend a few minutes and actually talk about what we just watched, learning about the favorite parts of our family members. Things like:
- Date
- Who picked the move
- Name of movie
- Who has seen it before
- Favorite characters
- Favorite parts
- Rate the movie (out of five stars)
- Memories
- Quotes
Absolutely Worth It
The best thing about this journal has been adding INTENTION to our family time. As I mentioned above, we're a very anxiety-filled and loud family, so when things are without purpose or direction, it can get chaotic. This journal has been a great way to help contain the chaos and make our family time fun.
