“Inventing Anna” - Netflix and TV Show Review

Word of Warning

  • Age: Definitely not a show for small kids, probably not even teenagers. It's geared towards an adult audience, even with the topic of the story. Money, and fame, and trying to understand how the legal and financial systems work in America.
  • Language: There is a lot of swearing thrown around between characters, especially towards the end as they uncover more of the actual story of Anna Delvey.
  • Sex: As for sex, there's no nudity that I remember, but there is abundant conversation about relationships and hooking up.

General Feeling

At the beginning of each episode of this Netflix show, you find this disclaimer: “This whole story is completely true. Except for all the parts that are totally made up.” Everything is believable, and makes you want to know even more about these odd world that convicted con-woman, Anna Delvey, created! Based off the original article from New York magazine by Jessica Pressler, the show goes through the entire investigative story.

The show was very well made, and the acting was great. You love to hate Anna Delvey, and then you love to love her again when more information is uncovered. The show doesn't give all the details up front, you learn more as Jessica finds out more from new sources. You feel like you're part of the investigative team, trying to fit the puzzle pieces together.

Would I Recommend?

For someone that loves true crime? Yes, it's a great non-murder investigative storyline.

To my husband? No, it's definitely for someone that enjoys socialite and celebrity gossip more.

Will I watch again? No, it was an intriguing storyline, but now I know what happened.

Anything I will take with me? Maybe a bit of awe at how much drive a person can have to change their life. Fake it 'til you make it can be a real thing!
