When we decided to move from Florida to Utah, I knew we needed a set of family photos at the beach. I called on a friend of a friend, Stephanie Horsley to help us out. I met Stephanie at a baby shower for our friend, and knew she was a photographer, but that was about it!

Learning About Us
About a week before family photos, Stephanie sent me a Google form with a few questions. Asking things like:
- If we liked posed or candid photos
- Family member names, ages, and hobbies
- What specifically we like about her work
Not Feeling Myself
The last question on the form was asking about anything else we should know. In the last year I've put on some weight from stress, and I just haven't been able to get it totally back on track. Trying on outfits for the photos wasn't ideal, and I just wasn't feeling like myself. I told Stephanie, and she made sure to remind me about posing differently.
But in addition to her direction, I also bought some shapewear. Was uncomfortable like all get out having to sit in the car on the way to Towers Beach, but totally worth it. Highly recommend it, especially if you're feeling a little self conscious.
Making Us Comfortable
Usually family photos are a heaping pile of stress. No one is wanting to smile; no one is having fun; it's just crazy town. Stephanie had a speaker for fun music playing. She knew the kids' names and what they liked, to keep them talking and relaxed. When the kids wanted to collect shells or run in the waves, no one pushed them to get back to perfect positioning. Stephanie just took candid shots and then caught fun smiles during their play. We just had fun, and you can see it in the photos!
